A Touching Testimonial..."I must share that the ability to pick up on potentially "dangerous clues" and confident communication of them is crucial to protecting the innocence of our children. As a young male I unfortunately had experienced a encounter that was very frightening and could have been potentially fatal. On a regular day, heading home from school and getting off of a public bus. I was unfortunately identified, pursued and attempted to be coerced by an older male. I had eventually noticed the perpetrators "eye trailing" and gesturing while on the bus but that did not deter his pursuit. As I got off the bus the male followed. I was offered money, sneakers and clothes at the exchange of me to visit with the male at his home. Reviews On Our Books..."Don't Snooze on Clues" is a timely and relevant children's book that will protect our young people and assist in securing their safety. In writing "Don't Snooze on Clues", Keba Cairo provides a wonderful opportunity for Parents, Guardians and Teachers to reinforce the book's catch phrase," Strange Activity", so that our children can alert caring, concerned adults of situations and people that are dangerous. "Don't Snooze on Clues" empowers young children to embrace the practice of , "If you see something, say something". As an Ordained Minister, Educator, Parent and Grandparent, it is my Prayer that "Don't Snooze on Clues" will be available, as required reading, in Houses of Worship, Homes, Schools and Libraries across this Country. I applaud the fact that you use the innocents of a child to highlight the innate behaviors that we as adult tend to " hush and/or shun". Children are always vigilant... Often more than what we can appreciate... We often try to suffocate their growth and exploratory development by telling them to be quiet or not to stare or point at the strange man or woman ... When at times if we would pay close attention to what they are saying it might be something very important for future knowledge...Perhaps even save a life...So I definitely commend you on this new endeavor... It's definitely different... But different in a good way...This encourages awareness, and a sense of responsibility in kids of all age, ethnicity, creed, race, intellectual level and disability... This book can help to open up a child's imagination, while creating more savvy and safe kids ... Who understand the saying.." If you see something, say something ". I could also imagine that this text can decrease the cases of kidnappings and pedophiles...I sure wish this was available when I was growing up... As the mom of a precocious, inquisitive 7 year old, who currently attends the 2nd Grade in an inner city school, I was very impressed with “Don’t Snooze On Clues”, as it presented the ideal opportunity for my daughter and I to open up a dialogue about, how to respond when bad things happen, clues to identify bad guys, and things that she can do to keep herself safe. I think that this book is exactly what parents and teachers need to begin those difficult conversations with children on strange situations that they may encounter but don't know how to express. The book teaches children at a young age societies common practice of "If you see something, say something." This book would be a great addition to a child's library at home or in school. As a mommy of four kids, there is nothing that scares me more than the idea of my children being subjected to "STRANGE ACTIVITY" and not knowing how to handle it or even to identify it on their own. This book offers simple, yet descriptive ways to "Clue" our kids in on what to look for and what to do if they see things that should alarm them to be careful, safe and report "STRANGE ACTIVITY". It is written in a way to not scare our kids, but instead help them feel like it's "their job" to report things to help protect themselves and others too! This book is great, even for younger ages, when teaching them about "stranger danger" is necessary to those trusting "little people". To me, it's always better to over educate, than under educate our kids about how to handle difficult and even frightening situations with calmness and clarity! This is a book I would use with my children an also would recommend to my friends with children! Don't Snooze on Clues is a great read for kids and parents alike! The Educational system would benefit from reinforcing the "Strange Activity"terms by using the curriculum in the classroom as a part of the life skill lessons. As a drug and violence prevention counselor in the Dept of Education I can see how Don't Snooze on Clues will work well with classroom presentations, safety workshops and PTA Meetings. What a wonderful child appropriate way to open a discussion on subjects that may be uncomfortable. Kudos to the author Keba Cairo! What a fabulous idea! With all the scary things going on in the world it's great to have an age appropriate tool to help get the conversation going with small kids. I like the fact that it's a workbook with easy to memorize text too. As a father of two children aged 10 and 1 and a half. This book review is absolutely dynamic and groundbreaking in its approach. After reading "Don't Snooze on the Clues", I am encouraged its readers will be empowered. Don't Snooze on the Clues helps promote taking the uneasiness and overall "taboo" out of discussing many prevalent but hidden dangers for both parents and children. This book is clean and clear cut. It teaches children about potential hidden danger and how to identify it. It is practical as it uses language that children will understand and teaches children to not only associate dangerous people with looking mean, which is NOT the case in real life. Don't Snooze on Clues! makes a point to make the strangers look normal. The illustrations are great and are tactful enough not to scare young children, which is a good place to start for them. Parenting is challenging especially in a tech savvy society. Don't Snooze on Clues is a fun and interactive book for children to dialogue with their parent/guardian about things that may seen questionable and scary. The book is a must-have, reader friendly and empowers children to trust their instinct and speak up. |
